What is counselling? 

 

Counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private and confidential setting to explore a difficulty the client is having, distress they may be experiencing or perhaps their dissatisfaction with life, or loss of a sense of direction and purpose.

 

During the counselling sessions clients explore various aspects of their life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief and embarrassment can become very intense and the counselling "space" offers an opportunity to explore them, with the possibility of making them easier to understand.

How I work:  I work from a Humanistic perspective integrating several models of counselling, always offering core elements of acceptance, non-judgement, respect, confidentiality, trust and respect.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a number of models of therapy (Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural, Gestalt, Inner Child & Existential) to best suit your needs.

Basically, counselling is having a conversation with a trained listener/helper, where you, the client, talk and identify your issues, and I, the trained listener/helper make interventions to help you clarify and or resolve the issues.  I do not give advice.  My aim is to help you pose the right questions which in turn assist you finding the most appropriate answers for you!

 

Issues:  I work with clients on a wide range of issues including; Abuse, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Confidence, Depression, Fertility, Low Self Esteem, Panic Attacks, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD), Post & Peri Natal Depression, Redundancy, Relationships, Self Harm, Suicide, Trauma & Work related issues.

Sessions: Ø  Normally once weekly lasting 50 minutes

Ø  Cost £45 for individuals, £50 for couples.

Ø  Payable by cash or cheque after each session

Ø  Carry a £10 discount for students

How to start: Ø Clients usually contact me directly and we have a short   telephone discussion about their needs and issues

Ø  An initial face to face meeting takes place at a mutually agreed time

Ø  48 Hours later we have a short telephone conversation in which we decide if and when we want to work together
